Website Advice For Future Multimedia App. Students

Now that I’m finished with my multimedia apps website about my family’s dessert recipes,  I wanted to give some advice for those coming in multimedia apps, or for anyone who wants to make a website.

Down below are three pieces of advice that I would give to those  of you that are going to be or thinking about making a website.

  1. One important piece of advice I can give to you is to use good widgets.  Meaning don’t just select random widgets that you don’t know what they do, just to look like you included a variety of widgets.  Spend time picking out widgets that will be useful to your website and will contribute to things on your website like easier navigation and accessibility.  When I completed my website, I wished I would’ve spend a little more time on my widgets, and thoroughly went through to make sure that they match with my topic.  Also remember to be creative with them.
  2. One other important piece of advice I can give you that I wish I knew before I started is that non-copyrighted images can be very hard to find depending on your topic.  I did a dessert recipes website and their was barely any non-copyrighted dessert images that fit my recipes. I can tell you though that there are multiple free non-copyrighted websites full of images, which is where I found mine in the end.  I wish I would’ve looked at those websites in the beginning. Instead of just searching google images, that would have saved me a lot more time. Adding onto this I can tell you that you should not spend most of your time in class looking for images, but instead get the other information down first, then go back to look at images.
  3. I wish I would’ve thought about my internal and external links a little more.  Before we started this project, I wish I would’ve known a little more about what exactly the internal and external links are and how to use them.  So I can tell you that when you are working on putting in link, make the links relevant to your topic and not just something random. On my website I would’ve changed my external links, by making them vary more instead of having a similar idea for each one.  I also say that you shouldn’t overthink what you’re going to do for your links, because it can get kind of stressful. Your links should also be easy to connect to your topic, and be creative with them. For example you could add external links leading to some of your favorite things involving the topic you choose.
