Why Volcanoes Erupt
Back when the god’s ruled over the Romans and Greeks, a baby boy was born from the Titans, Cronus and Rhea, along with his brothers and sisters. This baby boy was named Zeus, soon to be leader of the both Earth and Mount Olympus. Zeus along with his brothers, Poseidon and Hades, ruled over the world. They divided up creation, Zeus taking Mount Olympus, Poseidon taking the sea, and Hades taking the underworld.
When Zeus looked down at Earth he saw humanity in need of major help. He saw that the earth was dying and that his people were also dying. The land was being overcrowded and wasn’t growing crops well. The people were starving to death. Zeus stood up, from his mighty throne and commanded, “Rise my land, make mounds of dirt, and fill with molten lava,” lastly he said, “Now rise!” At first the ground did nothing, except sit there like the land was empty and they didn’t hear the orders from the great Zeus.
But then the ground shook and mounds of earth rose all over the world, filling with scolding lava. The mounds looked like giant ant hills, except the mounds of dirt didn’t have ants living in them, instead they had hot lava boiling inside them. Zeus struck the mounds of dirt, yelling out, “I shall name these mounds of dirt,VOLCANOES!” From then on the giant mounds of earth, filled with boiling lava, were called volcanoes.
Zeus decided that it was a time for a change and he called on certain volcanoes around the world to erupt. They rest of the volcanoes he called to stay still and just wait for there time to erupt. The volcanoes erupted near and in civilizations, they also erupted in open land. The volcanoes were erupting everywhere, spilling out with molten lava, causing the land to start up in flames. The land was starting disintegrate and was clearing away villages and forest, leaving wide open space, just like Zeus had wanted. Zeus wanted to clear the land for the people could start a new life and new growth. He wanted the people to start a new harvest season, with plenty of plentiful vegetable and fruits. When Zeus saw that the land was being cleared like he wanted he said, “Finally, I can help my humans, I can give them a chance for a new life and to start again.
Now that the humans saw these great mounds of dirt rising and saw some bright red and orange goo pouring out of these mounds they all ran. Mortals were running from this scolding thick liquid, leaving villages, civilizations, and open land left in ashes, which some bones of humans and animals. Zeus looked down to see these humans running in fear, and he himself, the great almighty Zeus, started to feel guilty and sadness in his actions and for all the lives he took.
Then Zeus saw what had happened at the disaster of Pompeii, and how many people died and the city was destroyed during the volcano eruption. Zeus realized that instead of killing many people and destroying civilizations he only wanted peace and a chance for a new beginning he never wanted to lose this many mortals. Zeus took a moment of thought, thinking of what do do next, then it struck him and with his mighty voice he said, “Volcanoes, stop, don’t erupt anymore till I say so.”
But the volcanoes didn’t stop erupting, it was almost like the volcanoes had a mind of their own. So now since the volcanoes weren’t listening, Zeus called out to Poseidon saying, “Wet the volcanoes I created, to stop them from erupting.” So Poseidon did, knowing that if he did not follow his brothers command he could be kicked out from ever entering Mount Olympus again. Only because he didn’t listen to one simple task. In this Zeus saw that there was many disadvantages and advantages to volcanoes, but in the end Zeus saw that he only want to help his mortals and help them to begin a new life, but he didn’t want to hurt them.
Now there was a time for peace, and time for new growth. Zeus was now happy and was in time of peace, and from then on he decided that he would only erupt the volcanoes when they were really needed. Zeus yelled out from Mount Olympus, “ Now rest, my people and land, live peaceful lives.” Then he command, “Now my volcanoes, stay still, just wait,” finally he said, “just wait.” The great and almighty Zeus sat down in his giant throne and rested along with his brothers and sisters. Now that Zeus created the volcanoes, he saw that he would only use them for good. He now knew that the volcanoes wouldn’t cause any more damage till his command. Finally Zeus could rest peacefully, knowing that his mortals were safe.
